Portraits

Toler’s stylized portraits combine the head, face and shoulder and sometimes hands and arms, in a broad array of colorful and diverse presentations. Toler’s portrait series show a plethora of human facial conceptions. Each work is a mini-exploration of a kind of person processed in Toler-fashion into a composite-type work.  Specifically, Toler’s depiction taps the recesses of imagination, assisting the viewer in reconnecting with distant memories as well as current re-cognitions. Looking at people and their faces is an intimate act that highlights the importance of everyday social connections and intimate exchanges.
